The per capita income for the village was $16,895. Males had a median income of $32,470 versus $21,327 for females. The median income for a household in the village was $41,292, and the median income for a family was $43,182. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 85.2 males. For every 100 females there were 85.3 males. In the village, the population was spread out, with 29.1% under the age of 18, 9.6% from 18 to 24, 29.6% from 25 to 44, 21.5% from 45 to 64, and 10.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.70 and the average family size was 3.13. 21.8% of all households were made up of individuals, and 6.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. There were 602 households, out of which 35.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.2% were married couples living together, 15.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 28.4% were non-families. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.58% of the population.
The racial makeup of the village was 94.59% White, 0.18% African American, 1.11% Native American, 0.55% Asian, 0.06% Pacific Islander, 2.03% from other races, and 1.48% from two or more races. There were 640 housing units at an average density of 455.4 per square mile (175.3/km 2). The population density was 1,157.8 per square mile (445.5/km 2). The chief was a friend to the white settlers and did not want to see harm come to them, so he set out on foot and ran almost 150 miles to the settlement to warn the people. Īccording to legend, while he was at the gathering of the chiefs in Detroit, Wahbememe heard plans to attack the settlement which is now White Pigeon. This gravesite is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places. He was buried in the town, with a memorial stone marking his grave.
